Ba'eta Le Mariam Monastery & Menelik II Mausoleum
በዓታ ለማርያም ገዳም
Arat Kilo (palace quarter)$⏱ 1 hour
This 1911 monastery church holds the marble tombs of Emperor Menelik II, Empress Taytu and Empress Zewditu in its crypt. Its painted interior and utter lack of crowds make it one of the city's most rewarding hidden imperial sites, tucked beside the palace compound.
☀️ Local tip
A priest or caretaker unlocks the crypt for a small fee/donation — ask at the gate. Combine with Unity Park or Holy Trinity nearby.
