Kechene Women's Pottery Cooperative

Founded in 1991 with ILO/UNDP support, this cooperative in the Kechene potters' district keeps alive a craft brought to Addis by North Shewa potters in Menelik II's day. Dozens of women hand-build jebena coffee pots, ceramic hens, plates and vases the traditional way, and a fixed-price shop on site sells what you see being made.
☀️ Local tip
Call ahead if possible and look for the turn near the giraffe statue on the main road toward Gulele; buying here puts money directly in the makers' hands.
