Ethiopian National Theatre

Opened by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1955, the 1,500-seat National Theatre remains the flagship stage for Ethiopian drama, traditional music and orchestral performances — many of the country's greatest singers debuted here. In 2025 it went fully digital with online ticketing and launched a revitalized program for the Ethiopian new year.

Most plays are in Amharic, but music and dance nights need no translation — buy tickets online (about 200 birr) and dress a touch smart.
